Industry in Yonezawa date back to late 18th century when silkworm
growing and associated activities started. During and after WWII,
the “Factory Evacuation” caused a shift from its textile-intensive
industry structure to complex industry structure involving electromechanical
manufacturing that exist and operate in Yonezawa as seen today. The
Yonezawa Core Industrial Park was established as the very first implementation
of a overnment policy to relocate industries, and led to clustering
of business organizations that led to formation of a ooperative network.
Yonezawa thus came to rank high in industrial product shipment (80800
M yen in 2007, of which 48340 M yen from information/telecommunication
equipment and ranks the 3rd in industrial parks in Japan) and became
famous as a “city of manufacturing.”
Recent trends of diversifying customer needs, ever-intensifying international
competition and continuing relocation of manufacturing sites - all
point to the necessity of further improvement in technical competence
and development of novel business activities.
Toward such ends, enterprises in the Yonezawa area form several network
groups beyond “keiretsu” lineage and promote interactive
activities, such as those for information exchange, various cooperation
or discussion forums in the local industry. They also involve the
Faculty of Engineering, Yamagata University and other institutions,
which provide opportunities for research/investigative activities
and also serve as the source of valuable human resources. Efforts
to establish new fashion brands and reconstruct consistent manufacturing
scheme are also in progress.
Yonezawa Office Arcadia (lot lease/sale started 2000) has been developed
to provide an environment for knowledge-intensive businesses that
achieve high value-addition to manufacturing operations, create attractive
job opportunities, and invigorate Yonezawa area’s economy and
industry, primarily intended for offices, and R&D institutions.
Hachimanpara Core Industrial Park, chiefly for manufacturing operations,
is now being subject to land improvement and consideration for fuller
utilization of lots. |
